SIGHS OF AFRICA!

“Give it a try, for you are born to fly; don’t sit on the shores, don’t wait and sigh.  ”…Vikrmn

How did we get here?

If you would honestly rate the general progress of Africa on a scale of one to ten, what would it be? Your guess is as good as mine, it’d definitely score low, but unfortunately, same thing applies to the rest of the world, Africa just happens to snatch the first prize, or if you may, Africa finally wins gold at something, literally.

“If you don’t know where you’re coming from…then you don’t know where you’re going…” Terry Pratchett

History, in proportion to the present…

The whole world has apparently stigmatized Africa with poverty, diseases, illiteracy, corruption, lack of initiative and even evil, but how true are these allegations?

Although history tells us that the western world likes to wield a form of control over the rest of the world, that is why a massive chunk of the African population were taken as slaves to foreign lands to be maltreated as inhumanely as possible, yet the strength, heart and dexterity of the dark skinned race shone brightly like the midday’s sun. And when the mysterious glory could not be put out, various other strategies were employed to subdue them. From what we see, Africa is indeed plagued with the negative things mentioned above, but have Africans themselves truly realized the apparent anomaly as shortcomings and are they ready to turn a new leaf?

“…The past gives you an identity and the future holds the promise of salvation, of fulfillment of whatever form. Both are illusions.” Eckhart Tolle

Hello Future!

The future? How much more can we emphasize our neglect of the future, when we neither pay any attention to the present nor ascribe value to life itself?
No doubt Africa is seriously lagging behind, but there is a huge tendency that the best is yet to come, as in we are yet to see the worst of Africa if she continues to decline in morals, initiative, transparency and accountability. The so called leaders of the day owe it to the people to actually lead with selflessness and arrange a succession plan that will encourage or even rely on inclusiveness so as to tap into the strengths of everyone.

History should as a matter of fact and urgency be explicitly taught to the kids, so that their future can be clear as crystal. It should be taught that some turncoats amid the African fore fathers stood back to watch their brothers being forcefully dragged into slavery, because they amongst themselves allowed it to tarry, and today we can clearly see modern slavery encompass Africans.

The western world though smart with development and technological advancement, have indoctrinated Africa to work for them, while the elites in Africa further impoverish the already poor people for their own material gains, blinded by vanity they fail to realize that they only destroy themselves, wasting precious resources and obliterating their souls as they perish abruptly, never to be remembered as they have no legacy of character nor wealth to leave behind.
Africa indeed doth sigh, but I cannot tell if it’s a sigh of relief, but it sure is deep.

God bless Nigeria, Africa and the world!

Thank you, and be awesome because you truly are.

HAPPY INDEPENDENCE???

“Independence means…enjoying freedom and empowering others too to let them do so ”…Vikrmn (1983- ) Indian author.

Freedom

This is probably the trickiest word in the book, as it is constantly taken out of context and vehemently misconstrued for obvious selfish reasons in order to exploit the weak and vulnerable.

Many nations are yet to be free indeed long after slavery was abolished. In this present day, slavery isn’t enforced, but rather, a smart way of using psychology and blackmail does the trick like magic, so smoothly that one perhaps yearns for it, just like a dish of pottage for your birthright scenario.

“I have observed that the prosperity or misery of each people is in direct proportion to its liberties or its prejudices and, accordingly, to the sacrifices or the selfishness of its forefathers”…Juan Crisostomo Ibarra (Fictional character in the famous work “Noli Me Tanger)

The current state of the nation!

Take it or leave it, Africa still wallows in slavery, which leaves no question really. The disturbing news here is that Africans have somewhat chosen to remain slaves. Remember the Kanye West’s slavery comment that broke the Internet about the dark skinned people having to choose slavery, well, he was kind of right, but unfortunately he just didn’t quite know how to express himself on such a sensitive and highly volatile topic that could make him seem to betray his race.
When a slave is enslaved for too long, his mind becomes conditioned to it, injuring his personality to the extent that he eventually out of suppressed self and forced loyalty, defends his master. A perfect example is when Moses led the Israelites out of Egypt, and when they had a challenge in the wilderness, they asked to go back to slavery in order to at least survive.

“I know not with what weapons world war III will be fought, but World War IV will be fought with sticks and stones ”… Albert Einstein (1879-1955) German born Theoretical Physicist who developed the theory of relativity.

If there is indeed a future!

While most of the countries of the world, especially western, are outrunning themselves in the fields of Education, Diplomacy, Defense, Manufacturing, Green environment and value for human lives, Africa is busy amassing wealth blindly through corruption at the expense of her future as she seems to near apparent extinction, literally surrendering her resources to the western world. The questionable leadership, lust for power and obsession for the amassing of material things leaves only a bleak future, if at all, to gaze upon.

“Life can only be understood backwards; but it must be lived forwards  ”…Soren Kierkegaard (1813 -1855) Danish philosopher

Endless Thirst

Nigerian youths have always hoped to use fresh ideas to shape the future of the country, but unfortunately, power has been constantly recycled among the elites since the sixties, and the experienced old-timers have only become godfathers to upcoming ones, blackmailing them to loot the treasury to help them further expand their corrupt empires. Surprisingly, they fail to realize that these acts only breeds animosity and tainted integrity, especially when there thrives untold poverty all around them.

“What we like to think of ourselves and what we really are rarely have much in common”…Stephen King (1947 - ) American author of horror and supernatural fiction.

Can we be realistic?

No doubt Nigeria and by extension, Africa got a long way to go, and pretty much quite a lot of work to do, but that is not the problem. The hitch here is that there is no power of will in sight. The leaders are corrupt and have no idea, and even if they do, they are not selfless enough to see everyone as equal and show enough positive mentality and emotional intelligence to resonate unto others. Is it not shameful to know that if Africans and the westerners switched places, Africa will be better and the western world will be worse off? We need to swallow our pride and figure out what they are doing right, and no one will actually accuse us for copying the right thing.

I was going to say happy Independence to Nigeria, but who would I be fooling…realizing she isn’t truly free? Rather, she is deliberately offering herself as a slave, unbelievable right? Welcome to reality.

God bless Nigeria, Africa and the world!

NIGERIA: HOW FAR GONE?

“There is no man so far gone, but the grace of God can reach him…” Dwight L. Moody (1837 – 1899) American evangelist and publisher. He founded the Moody church.

Light at the tunnels end?

Some people perhaps out of apparent sarcasm usually say that the light at the end of the tunnel might as well be a train’s, so you have to move away to avoid being crushed. Well, we are actually treading on the borderline of optimism here, a crave for hope of a better future for our dear Nigeria.
Look around you, is even the best good enough, can’t it get better, can we not live better lives, be fair to nature that nurtures us, and indeed be more humane to mankind?

The world is getting darker as we advance and multiply, perhaps because we are getting less concerned or maybe it is simply logic. Either way, there is something we’re doing wrong, however, if we do have an inkling that we are probably deviating from a set path, how far gone are we… And is there a possibility of a respite?

“I suppose I have found it easier to identify with the characters who verge upon hysteria, who were frightened of life, who were desperate to reach out to another person. But these seemingly fragile people are the strong people really”…Tennessee Williams (1911 – 1983) American Playwright

Hysteria!

How fragile are we? Perhaps we are as fragile as we think we are. Also, we are strong to the extent to which we believe it in our minds. A school of thought describes we humans like an egg, especially women. An egg is fragile, but gets really strong when boiled.
Nigerians are good people, and have evolved into really strong people as the nation has boiled with many problems ranging from political hysteria to lack of basic infrastructure needed to support life and business.

There is too much conspiracy, deceit and hypocrisy all around, but to what end?
It is natural to embrace and ultimately wield power, but how can we envisage genuine leadership in the midst of uncertainty, and with the available quality and the character of the so-called men within us.

We cannot totally judge the leaders that emerge from within us, because eventually we are all the same. We share the same beliefs, cultural orientation, hopes and aspirations. Unless we change the stereotyped rhetoric at the grassroots level, things will remain the same.

“Education makes a people easy to lead, but difficult to drive, easy to govern but impossible to enslave”…Henry Peter Brougham  (1778 - 1868) British salesman who became Lord Councilor of Great Britain

Enlightenment and heart!

Call it a mix of brilliance and emotional intelligence; it is probably the greatest blend ever. To survive the terror of oppressors, one must be powerful, and in the underlying context of this time and age, knowledge is power. Well, potential power really, depending on ones resolve to maximize it, and how you use wisdom to channel it, you get the idea.
We feel the impact of education daily, and how doomed we probably are to the extent to which we ignore the imperatives of planning better education for the next generation, else they’ll become slaves to the children of other nationals in the future.
Or is it not already happening?
Nigeria has literally mortgaged her future by depriving her citizens of opportunities and even robbed them of their fortunes and traded them with unworthy material possessions of the western world fueled by greed and myopia.
Nigeria for as long as we can remember has been plagued with illiteracy, poverty, diseases, corruption, greed, exploitation, misdirection and lack of will power to rise from within the trenches of poverty of the mind.

How far gone is Nigeria from reality and hope? Well, its actually up to her citizens, her land is still a virgin and is undiluted, her citizens still have original succulent breasts unlike the western world, her fruits still have seeds, her livestock still have soul, and the people still have heart.
This simply means that the sun can still shine upon us again, we can still tell tales by moonlight and ignore the fear of bombs strike and unnecessary massacres.
Its high time we lived in the present, being more self aware, and to genuinely choose to build our will power to actually succeed by adding colour and value to our precious lives.

God bless Nigeria, Africa and the world!

Thank you, and be awesome because you truly are.
